32. Campiello dei Meloni

This Madonna, which dates from around 1591, is on the wall of Ca' Diedo over the serliana between the third and the fourth floors. The relief in Istrian stone shows Mary protecting two brothers from the Scuola dei Mercanti (100 cm x 100 cm). It is hard to see from Campiello dei Meloni, as it is high up on the wall facing the rio.  Another relief, also on the same wall  but easier to see, shows the symbol of the scuola: a blessing hand over a cross. San Polo 1345B. The picture shown here is of a nearby building in Campiello dei Meloni.

How to get there. From the Rialto Bridge, walk straight ahead to Ruga Vechia San Giovanni. Make a left turn. Continue on the same direction to Campo San Aponal. Cut across the campo and take either Calle de Mezo or Calle del Perdon. Either one will take you to Campiello dei Meloni.
