| Campo San Giovanni Grisostomo. Annie from Churches in Venice pointed out that, until recently, this wellhead used to be hidden by the tent-like enclosure of a nearby restaurant. She sent me this picture taken in 2008. Not only this beautiful wellhead has been freed, but it seems that the stone has been cleaned as well. She wondered how come the lions had survived Napoleon's destructive hand. Rizzi's "Vere da Pozzo di Venezia" may have the answer. The wellhead, which is from the last quarter of the 15th century, was originally in a courtyard in Giudecca and placed here in 1855. ![]() Photo credit Annie from Churches in Venice |
